Our client provides a wide range of products and services focused on image and information management solutions for the Healthcare enterprise. Foster City is the global headquarters of the group which focuses on core radiology imaging solutions and enterprise support systems. Their solutions provide diagnostic and intervention support for clinicians at the point of need throughout hospitals and other health care intuitions.
The server team specifies, develops, and maintains highly available systems that manage the distribution and archiving of medical images and patient information throughout the enterprise. Their solution guarantees 99.99% up time, is a highly distributed, highly available, and fully fault tolerant.
Candidates for the role of database engineer / administrator must have a strong technical foundation and demonstrate sound problem analysis, and problem solving capabilities. He/she must demonstrate competency in a broad range of technical areas and expertise in one or two of those areas. This role requires the individual to constantly learn and apply new technologies.
Database engineer / administrators must thrive in an environment characterized by its fast pace and its high level of collaboration. In performing the essential functions of this role, database engineer / administrators will find the work-environment is fast-paced, moderately noisy, and team-based.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Design, implement, and maintain high-performance, scalable database applications(stored procedures, T-SQL, SQL and some C#).
• Research and resolve technical issues raised by application developers, testers, or customer support.
• Performance tuning and optimization of software applications and databases.
• Design and develop data migration procedures for application version upgrades.
• Perform data modeling, logical and physical database design based on knowledge of modeling techniques, modeling tools available on the project, and business functions of the system.
• Create system documentation, for use by engineering and customer support teams.
• Work with team members to evaluate new database features.
• Perform periodic MS SQL Server 2005 database administration including tasks such as implementing and maintaining database instances, loading data, managing data security and user access, performance monitoring and tuning, data integrity, backup, recovery, and user support.These tasks are for a software engineering development environment only
• Software development about 50%, performance and scalability about 25%, and database administration about 25%.
Skills and Qualifications
Technical/Functional Requirements
• Experience writing stored procedures, triggers, and views.
• Experience with C# ASP.NET, and the .NET framework a plus.
• Data modeling experience, with attention to normalization, data element names, and data types.
• Competent at creating documentation for database tables and SQL procedures.
• Experience troubleshooting performance issues: performance monitoring, fine tuning stored procedures and SQL, application performance optimization, scalability testing, and database tuning.
• Experience developing ETL to migrate data from legacy data stores and SQL databases.
• Experience with migration tools such as DTS, DBArtisan, Informatica, or others.
• Experience in installing, configuring, and administering MS SQL Server databases in development and production environments.
• Experience in job scheduler, data transformation services, SQL connectivity technologies, and SQL query analyzer.
• Experience in backup and restore plan and experience in troubleshooting and monitoring SQL Server. Writing scripts and creating scheduler jobs to automate these tasks.
• Experience in sizing databases for transaction and data volumes.
• Experience with software source control tools.
• Experience working with XML data and tools.
Desired Technical/Functional Experience
• Reporting Services experience a plus(SSRS).
• Analysis Services experience a plus(SSAS).
• MS Windows Server OS experience a plus.
• Database and OS security experience a plus.
• Experience in setting up disaster recovery a plus.
• Experience with clustering/load balancing and replicating MS SQL Server databases a plus.
Job Experience Requirements
• Six or more years of experience in relational database design, application development, and database administration.
• Four or more years of experience with MS SQL Server 2000/2005.
• Experience working with large production databases, on the order of one terabyte.
• Experience working with both OLTP and OLAP systems.
• Two or more years experience in data warehousing
Education
• BA/BS in Computer Science or Software Engineering (or equivalent experience)
